Irish Dancer

Can you believe it, the end of February is here, and that marks another stamp to be highlighted for the month over at Stamp n Doodle.
Being the month of March not only brings us St Davids day (on the 1st), but St Patricks Day on the 17th also, and therefore the Stamp of the Month is called Teagan's Irish Dance.
I went with the Irish colours for this card, and used the paper piecing technique to bring the image to life.

Card Recipe
Basic Grey card stock for base card (gypsy used to weld 2 x  Dots1-s 5 1/2 inch square)
white card stock (Dots1, page 34 cut at 5 /14 inch)
Patterned papers - free in magazine from stash
Promarkers
Cuttlebug & embossing folder
cricut Cartridge - Elegant Edges ( Dots1 cut on page 34 & Hearts1 oblong-s on page 26)
Gypsy

You can see here, that I printed the image onto patterned paper, cut out the various sections of the dress (bottom stripy layer, and dotty pinafore), and also the chequered dog! LOL! (who knew a chequered dog would look so acceptable :-))
To complete the look the hat and shoes were also added from the stripy paper, and the rest of the image coloured with skin shades of promarkers.

In the colour palette above I you can see a ribbon, but as we all do, I changed my mind and wanted to complete the card with a slightly different look, and for some reason I had bubbles in mind -so I cut from the patterned paper circles in 3 sizes and layered them together. I even fashioned an appropriate clover shape to include as well !

Thanks for stopping by and sharing my 'makings' with me.

Moonlit Lioness

This weeks sees a new challenge over at Stamp n Doodle, where we ask you to include an embossed element on your creation. That could include heat embossing or dry embossing, and you are not limited where you use and include it (just as long as it is somewhere).

I couldn't resist using this gorgeous digi stamp and creating a beautiful moonlit scene, with distress inks and stamps that I have in my stash.

Card Recipe
Stamp n Doodle digi stamp - Love is in the air
Silver Birch Trees, leaves and verse - Clarity Stamps
Base card - Tim Holtz core'dinations paper (adirondack)
White coated paper
black card stock
black self adhesive ribbon
Distress Inks (black soot, chipped sapphire, crushed olive)
Promarkers (sandstone, dusky pink, satin, primrose)
Silver embossing powder
Cuttlebug and embossing folder

You can see above what I used to create the card. To create the background, I printed the lions onto a coated paper, stamped and embossed the silver birch trees beside the lions. The same images were then printed onto sticky notes and cut out, to act as masks (you can see above the well used masks that are somewhat inky!)

By placing the masks over the images on the coated paper, also adding an additional 2" mask above the lions head that will create the moon.
I inked up the brayer (roller) with the chipped sapphire ink, and starting in the corner over the moon, covered the paper working towards the bottom where the blue faded.
I then inked the brayer with black soot, and repeated the process from the opposite corner (by the trees) and worked upwards. The contours of the black were created by ripping copy paper into a hill formation, covering the blue sky, so that the colours are not mixed.
I continued inking until i was happy with the intensity of the colour.

When the masks are removed the image comes to life, and the lions then coloured with promarkers.

The second embossed element on the card is the base card. Because of the nature of the core'dinations paper, the embossing is sanded back and a subtle second colour is showing through.

Thanks for stopping by. Why not hop over to the Stamp n Doodle blog to get more inspiration from the wonderful creations of my team members, and maybe join in with the challenge too.

Lace and Ribbons

This theme this week at Stamp n Doodle was LACE & FLOWERS (Any lace and flowers - can be die cuts, punches, actual lace and flowers, etc )

Card recipe
Digital image from Stamp n Doodle, Puppy Love
White card base 6x8 inch
Background paper, handmade flowers & smal flower border sticker - Basic Grey, Capella collection
Lace - lovely surprise gift from Mum
Tim Holtz stick pin with K & Co. heart tag
Die cut flowers cut with Cricut cartridge, Mothers Day Bouquet

With the boys on half term last week, we went out to the cinema, and naturally looked in a few shops. I saw a card that was incredibly simple, but very effective, so I used that as my inspiration in starting this card and a means to do something  bit different with the lace.
The lacey panel is an ATC (artist trading card) wrapped in 4 lengths of ribbons, and then used as the backdrop for the ever so cute digital image from STAMP n DOODLE. The image of the little girl was printed twice, in brown to keep the softness of the image in keeping with the rest of the colour palette (shown below).

One of the images was coloured with promarkers, cut out and decoupaged onto the other image.
I made the flowers using one of my favourite Basic Grey paper collections, Capella. I used the Cricut cartridge Mothers Day Bouquet to cut the flower layers.

This is the card for this weeks challenge over and the STAMP n DOODLE challenge blog.
Why not hop over and join in too. New challenges are posted weekly on a Tuesday. Exciting News

Well, its half term, again, the christmas holidays were only 5 minutes ago, that's how it seems anyway.
Where is the time going?
And I still have a lingering cold type thing that will not go and for the last 5 days it feels as though my head has been stuffed with cotton wool, and I can barely hear a thing.

Its not a good time to be feeling under the weather with the boys at home - but then again, if I can't hear properly maybe it will block out some of the bickering and whinging that you otherwise bother me.....mmmmm.  The boys are not that bad honestly, and the youngest is at nursery for 3 of the mornings anyway, giving me a chance to spend some time with my eldest. In a complete turn up for the books, I have now started to teach him how to play the guitar!. So far he is really enthusiastic and listening to me. Its great, I started learning at around his age, and have 2 guitars so its perfect. Its lovely to see him learning on my original smaller instrument

Anyway that is not my exciting news.......I can now say that I can put my 'creative makings' to good use and have been invited by a website www.stamp-n-doodle.com  to join a design team, and along with the rest of the team members provide a design for their weekly challenges on their blog.

Here is my first offering for the up coming challenge FOOD or BEVERAGE.

Stamp-n-Doodle is a Canadian  based stamp company founded by Lynne Crosskill.  There is a wonderful collection of digi stamps, and also unmounted rubber stamps, that range from character figures, but also natural images of wild animals and scenery, that will appeal to those who do not tend to go for 'cutsey' images. I am really taken with them all.

Hope you can make it over and join in with the challenges.

Thank you for taking the time to visit me.

Quickie notelets

Hi, just a quick post really to test out the new blogpress app on my phone.
I had made a couple of quick note let cards to pop into a couple of parcels, and because they were small (5x5 inch) they photographed nicely with my camera phone. I coloured the cards with distress inks. The purple card is coloured with dusty concord, and the hedgehog card is coloured with old paper and highlights of crushed olive.

I have been able to spend a bit of time crafting this week, and will be back soon with a few things to share.
See you then, bye.

Wild Cards

Hi, here are a couple of cards I made with some digi stamps that caught my eye from Stamp n Doodle, a digi stamp site that has a lovely range of wild animal images, amongst others.
I was pleased with how the images were coloured with promarkers, and because of the detail of the image not a huge amount of colour was necessarily needed to bring the stamp to life. The colours of the card around the zebra I hope you will agree, sets the whole African safari feel, at either sunrise or sunset.
To get the soft blend of safari plain colours in the background of each card I used alcohol inks with blending solution and a gold mixative, to add a subtle sheen.

These cards are perfect as mens cards, but I would happily give and receive these to and from anyone who enjoys wild animals and nature.

This was the perfect opportunity for me to also road test my new cricut cartridge, Rosettes and Ribbons. I cut to different sized rosettes and stacked them om top of each other to make the embellishment in a co-ordinating paper.

Thanks for taking to look through my pictures.

Elena's Banner

Happy New Year to everyone.
I'm back after a wonderful Christmas and New Year, that had been a long time in the planning. Unbeknown to Mum & Dad, who spent 3 weeks with us from just after the New Year, I had planned a surprise visit by my sister and her family. There were times over the secret months that Helen and I nearly buckled and exposed the whole story, so many times we had to confer to make sure we had covered our tracks and not let slip.
The logistics of our family means that a get together is not easy. The venue was with us in Rep. Ireland, Mum & Dad were visiting from Spain, and Helen had to travel with her husband and daughter (Jamie & Elena) from Cornwall, England. We even had to concoct a cover story, skillfully done by my husband Anthony, allowing him to go out alone early evening to a 'karate session' (without drawing suspicion) to meet Helen's flight at the airport.
By Dads own admission after the event, he was drawn in hook line and sinker, perhaps helped with the promise of a chinese takeaway being brought back home.
So Anthony headed out (karate bag in hand, secretly placed in the car he wasn't driving) to the airport and also the Chinese (the only detail that wasn't a lie). The nerves of the day had got to me at the stage and I could do nothing except sit incredibly nervously hoping no-one would talk to me while I waited for progress texts.
The moment arrived and on cue my niece acted as delivery person and boldly strolled in (to a house she had never visited before I might add) announcing 'anyone for takeaway'. I have never seen anyone so stunned let alone my own parents stuck for words.  Well done Elena!

***JOB DONE*** what commenced was a weekend full of fun.

*****--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*****

As an extra to this story, about 6 weeks ago Mum had the idea, that during our Monday night craft videos we take on the project to make a pretty banner for Elena, with the aim to send it to her for her birthday. At least stage I knew of the visit, so i had my own agenda to really try and finish it for then so Elena could take it back with her.
What added to my nerves on the day Helen, Jamie and Elena were due to arrive, was the fact that we hadn't quite finished the banner. Fair play to both Mum & Dad who went along with my erratic behaviour on the day, insisting that the house be hoovered and tidied (just as Dad had sat down to talk computers with Anthony) and insisting also that the banner must be finished and therefore almost banishing mum to my craft room. Actually it's making me giggle now how it must have looked.

To cut a long story short now, both Mum & I were quite chuffed with ourselves at how the project actually turned out. We didn't work to any plan or pattern, and made it all up as we went along. All we knew we wanted was for it to be pretty, and read 'Sweet Dreams'.
I thank Dad for taking the photos of the completed banner because they really show the detail that we added to each component.
Using a range of  embossing powder (kaleidoscope/clear ), and inking techniques along with sparkly stickles (and Mum very generous stickling application hehe) we embellished the Cricut die cut images from the Cindy Loo, and Lori's Garden cartridges.

Now without further ado, here is a chance to have a closer look at each of the letters we created. Hope you enjoy looking at it as much as we enjoyed creating and giving it as a gift.

Back panel embossed with kaleidoscope powder. The butterfly and leaves are printed and cut from Loris Garden, and embellished with stickles, buttons and ribbon.

Kept simple, but the buttons and ribbons are very effective.

Who could not love this little squirrel from Cindy Loo, printed again with Lori's Garden paper.

Mum to took complete charge of this one and again she couldn't resist using her favourite Cricut Imagine cartridge.

Mum had made the flower at home and it travelled with her from Spain, and looks lovely teamed with complimentary ribbon.

By this stage the theme for the banner had developed into a fantasy woodland feel. Mum really wanted bambi from Cindy Loo, and we couldn't resist the toadstools from Lori's Garden.

Simple but very effective and great work from the Imagine and Mum cutting and assembling the intricate bow. However there were giggles as a number of little pink gems for the bow 'pinged' around the craft room.

The bird cut from Lori's Garden is made up with about 6 layers, all printed on photographic paper, therefore giving it an attractive sheen. The glossiness of the paper mans the print quality is exceptional and crisp.

The cheeky frog will hold memories for Elena hopefully, as her Mum & Dad take her out for a milkshake and bacon sandwich at their favourite cafe called 'The Fat Frog'.
Cute

Here we sneaked in a little mouse from the Cricut Imagine cartridge, Nursery Tails.
I had had little copper charms for years in my stash and this was the ideal project to use it on.It reads cherish, dangling from the bow.

The butterflies are a single element from the Lori's Garden cartridge. Although not designed to be layered, by cutting more than one, they can be moulded and stacked using silicone glue to add much needed dimension.

Thank you very much for making it this far with me. This is a marathon entry for me - phew.

I will post some more detailed photos of each of the letters, and also a photo of the banner in situ in Elena's bedroom.

Thanks for looking x
